Established in 1941 and boasting an area of 37,000 acres, Myakka River State Park is another fantastic nature reserve offering excellent recreational opportunities for visitors from all over the state. A popular wildlife watching destination, this place is home to large populations of alligators, as well as different species of birds including great blue heron, wood stock, black-necked stilt, and roseate spoonbill.
Offering some of the most beautiful sunsets in the region, Myakka River State Park is a place where you can spend an entire weekend enjoying your favorite outdoor activities and having fun with your family or a group of friends. This public recreation area is located about 35 miles north of the Englewood city center and can be reached in less than 40 minutes by car via River Road and route I-75.
Sitting on the southern shores of Lake Manatee and spanning an area of almost 560 acres, Lake Manatee State Park is home to different species of alligators, turtles, and osprey that make it a well-known destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Open year-round between 8:00 a.m., and sunset, this state park is located just 50 miles north of Englewood and can be reached in less than one hour via route I-75.
